CABRILLO NATIONAL MONUMENT
Ambassador Of Spain Visits Cabrillo
On Friday afternoon, May 30th, his Excellency Ramon Gil-Casares, Ambassador of Spain in Washington D.C., visited Cabrillo National Monument. Accompanying the Ambassador were the Consul Generals of Spain in Los Angeles and San Diego as well as the President of Casa De Espana in San Diego. The Ambassador had a memorable experience; staff escorted him through the park in period dress from the 16th-19th century.
Earlier in the day the Ambassador participated in a knighting ceremony at Spanish Landing, the Maritime Museum of San Diego’s San Salvador build site. The San Salvador served as explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo’s flagship, one of three Spanish vessels to sail into San Diego Bay in 1542. The park is working with the Maritime Museum to establish future educational programs using this historic replica.
