I hope fall finds you well and you are enjoying the San Diego subtle seasonal transition. NPS restoration crews are up here this week helping out in the lighthouse, base end station, and statue areas. Fogginess adds to morning ambiance as we prance around on little cat feet. There are a lot of autumnal spirited events going on around San Diego. Go visit old buildings and hang out in cemeteries for your homies. Thanks to all those that came out for the State of the VIP.
Your VIP Voice
We encourage you to subscribe to the VIP Voice to have easier access to park communication and with each other. This is a volunteer forum and we look for your involvement and participation in making Cabrillo a better place for our communities and to learn about what we all do. Just check out all the information you may have missed since the last tome was published if you haven’t subscribed!
Open Tower, November 15th, 10:00 am – 3:30 pm
Another Open Tower approaches. We are looking for 8 to 10 folks to help us assist visitors with their experience of climbing to the top. I have added those how have already signed up to help in Volgistics (let me know if the times work for you). If you would like to help for the event please sign up in Volgistics.
Lecture Series
We look to the 2015 schedule to fill up our Series. If you have any ideas or know of any folks that can put wrinkles in our brains please pass their information on to me. Thanks to those who have passed me names.
The Bunkers of San Diego, November 20th, 6:30 pm
Join us for an evening as we look at the layout of San Diego’s coastal defense network. From floor plans and schematics to the individuals that stared out into the Pacific to keep the harbor safe, join us as VIP Joe, our bunker and military historian marches us into the network of concrete scattered around the hillsides. Please RSVP with “Situation SNAFU” in the subject line.
Volunteer Work Crew, November 22nd, 8:00 am
We have work to accomplish around the greenhouse area. Work consists of fuel reduction and clearing out an area for plant space and demonstration areas. If you haven’t been to our greenhouse this is a good chance to see what volunteers are doing in plant propagation and assisting in restoration projects. We start early and plan to work for about two to three hours. If you would like to help please send an email with “Kew Gardens” in the subject line.
Blow our Horn
We have another interesting volunteer opportunity to offer Cabrillo VIPs. If you are a land lubber this is not your calling, but if you want your soul to be saltier this might be right up the channel for you. Cabrillo recently signed an official partnership with Hornblower Cruises and they seek Cabrillo representation on their boats. All volunteers are welcome to be involved on the cruises as you can represent all different aspect of the park and relate it to the paying passengers. Due to its nature, this position requires a degree of regular commitment. If it sounds interesting and you would like to see the peninsula from a different perspective please email me with “I’m on a Boat!” in the subject line.
New Phone System
If you’ve had difficulty calling the park, that may be because we recently installed a new phone system that uses a new phone number and extensions. You can see the Park’s updated phone directory on our Contact Us page.
