Dear Volunteers,
During this season of thanksgiving we have an opportunity to pause and reflect on the many blessings in our lives. In that spirit, on behalf of the entire park staff, we would like to send a special thank you to the park volunteers. You give your precious time graciously. You respond to our calls for support during lean times and you are faithful to the protection and preservation of this special ecosystem. You bring history to life and help people plan their visit. You support us in the sometimes mundane admin duties and you lead work crews. You work by our sides every day. We could not fulfill our mission without you.
While out closing the park the other evening I pondered the hardy Shaw’s Agave plants just past the lighthouse. Their symbolism is fitting to our adaptable and resilient volunteer program. From its solid base it has grown many stalks over time…just as you have. You share a unified vision and your efforts support the whole. The Shaw’s is a rare and precious species. You are also unique and special. Your roots are solid and your commitment unshakable. Just as these plants at the top of the trail are iconic, your efforts have been recognized on a national level this year. You stand tall and proud. We thank you!
Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
