The Misfits and Me

Hello All,

I hope you are diligently watching the sunsets. There have been some pretty good ones as of late.  Balboa Park is celebrating.  It’s a nice time of the year to bring some food and camp under a ficus watkinsiana.  Enjoy it as people have for the last 100 years.

AIR Out and About – February 19, 4:30pm to 8:30pm

Our current AIR photographer is leading an exploratory hike around Cabrillo and to chat about his residency. It is also a chance to take some snaps during a unique time: sunset.  If you would like to attend please RSVP with “photomacrography”  in the subject line.  We have limited slots on this and they are filling up fast.

Dusty Socks Club:  Introduction to Birding – Saturday, February 28, Time TBD

This hike meets up at  Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.  We will have one of our own NPS Rangers give a brief overview on the basics of birding and then go try to find and identify some birds for ourselves!  Exact time to be sent out shortly.

Tidepool Mid-Season Training – March 14, 10:00am to 4:00pm

Please join us for our mid-season training or refresher for our Tidepool program.  We plan to meet in the auditorium  for the morning and in the afternoon we frolic in nature’s playground and get our feet (and possibly backsides) wet.  Please bring with you a lunch, water bottle, appropriate shoes to wear in the tidepools and a couple layers for warmth.  If you plan to attend please email Bonnie ( with “ haliotis cracherodii “ in the subject line.

Earth Day on the Bay – April 26, Time TBD

Our partner, the Maritime Museum of San Diego, hosts a new event this year down at the Embarcadero.  We plan to represent and are looking for a couple of  folks to help us staff our table.  Sign-up to come out shortly on Volgistics and we will need two people in the morning and two in the afternoon.

Continuing Education:

Trip to the San Diego Zoo – February 21, 9:15am

With epics such as Ken Allen and King Tut the zoo has an amazing legacy.  Did you know the plant collection at the zoo is far more valuable than its animal?  If you would like to learn the insides of the Zoo, CABR VIP’s are invited to go behind the scenes and check some places out. The guided tour lasts 1.5 hours and after it is over you can walk around the zoo on your own.  We are limited to 40 people so it is a first come first serve basis.  Please email me with “ovoviviparous” in the subject line.

Free Falling.
