This Friday, March 29, will be McKenna Pace’s last day at Cabrillo. She has been an invaluable asset to the Park as part of the Science Education Team. McKenna earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology at San Diego State University in 2017. She loves spending time outdoors (especially exploring the tidepools) and is passionate about science education and communication.

McKenna has built the volunteer-led Science Explorer’s Club, been an integral part of the Naturally Speaking series sponsored by the Cabrillo National Monument Foundation, conducted many school field trips around the park, and added to the science research being done at Cabrillo.

She will be working at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center outside of Juneau, Alaska as an Interpretation Intern through the Student Conservation Association (SCA). She will mostly be working the front desk and leading educational programs. The Mendenhall Glacier is part of the Tongass National Forest, so she will be donning a Forest Service uniform and learning how things run in a different agency. It’s a seasonal, 6-month position that goes from mid-April through the end of September. Who knows where she will end up when she gets back.
