Hello all!
Just a quick note to let you know about the details of our outing for the month of March. We will be meeting at Vallecito County Park at 9:30 a.m. on March 28th. There is a $3 entry fee per vehicle for the county parks.
This is a special day at Vallecito Regional Park, as they are celebrating “Vallecito Days”. They will be giving us a special behind-the-scenes tour and ranger presentation of the restored historic Vallecito Stage Station. Experience what life was like on the western frontier 150 years ago. After the presentation feel free to explore the Backcountry Horsemen, Mountain Men, and other 1860’s experiences. The park has hiking trails and, from what I hear, the flowers in the desert are beautiful right now. If anyone is interested, they may want to consider a soak in the hot spa or outdoor pool at Agua Caliente County Park, following the day’s activities.
Directions:
Vallecito County Regional Park
37349 County Route S-2
Vallecito Valley, CA 92036
Mile Marker 34-35
Typically GPS is not available once travelers begin their decent into the desert. There are basically 3 routes to take . . .
- Hwy 8 east to Ocotillo and then Hwy S2 to mile marker 35.
- Through Ramona to Julian and then down Banner Grade Road (winding road), then Right on Hwy S2 again to mile marker 35.
- Through Ramona, at Santa Ysabel (Dudley’ Bakery) turn left on Hwy 79, approx. 12 miles to S2 turn right (South) to Hwy 78, turn right approx. 300 yards to S2 turn left and continue to mile marker 35 (5 minutes longer but MUCH LESS winding).
It would be great to hear from you if you are planning on meeting us there, but no RSVP is required.
