Call to Action! Help Needed for Bioblitz

Cabrillo VIPs and Partners—Bioblitz 2016

As some of you may or many not know, the Cabrillo Bioblitz is coming on May 21st, 2016! This is a national event where members of the public and local scientists come out and quantify species diversity within our park. In conjunction, we have invited over 25 exhibitors and artists to partake in activities with kids and park guests (similar to Whale Watch Weekend). Park hours will even be extended till 8 p.m.

Currently, we are looking for approximately 50 volunteers to help throughout the day for the following positions:

Set-up: Assist in event set-up. Must be able to move heavier items.

Parking: Assist LE with parking and guiding people to open spaces and walking the line. Orange vests will be provided.

Front Desk: Regular front desk shift. Answer questions, give directions, Jr. Ranger badges, etc.

Rovers: Assist in general public interaction and park maintenance. Answer questions, pick up trash, general VIP presence.

Clean-up: Assist in post-event clean up. Break down tables, stack chairs, help close the park, trash pick-up, etc.

Science Village Check-in: Help check-in scientists at Science Village (Lower maintenance). Assist in answering questions and help make sure scientists are informed.

Exhibitor Volunteers: Assist visitors and artists in running their activities. Engage with the public and encourage science exploration.

Photo booth: Take pictures of park guests as the explore the Cabrillo Bioblitz photo booth. Help maintain photo booth area.

Volunteer/Exhibitor Check-in: Assist volunteers and exhibitors with getting their check-in information and knowing where they should set-up. Answer volunteer and exhibitor questions throughout the day.

Biodiversity University: Pass out Biodiversity University Bingo Cards to guests and sign certificates of those who complete.

iNaturalist Assistants: iNaturalist is the program to take biodiversity observations (for Apple and Android). Assist park visitors in questions about the program. Proficiency needed. Training available.

Auditorium IT/Speaker Introductions: Scientists will be giving talks throughout the day. Volunteer will assist in introducing scientists and making sure that presentations run smoothly.

First Aid: administer First-Aid Services if needed. First-Aid/CPR training required.

Shift times and sign-ups are on Volgistics if you are interested. You can sign-up for 1 or more shifts throughout the day. All volunteers will receive a Bioblitz t-shirt and name badge!

As this is a larger park event, we will also be providing two training sessions to which we request all volunteer participants to attend one. These will be held in the auditorium on the following days:

Thursday, May 12th, 2016 @ 5-6 pm

Saturday, May 14th, 2016 @ 10-11 am
