Spring is in the air and Cabrillo Under the Stars is around the corner, the Cabrillo National Monument Foundation’s largest event and fundraiser. This terrific event will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 6:30 – 10 p.m. at Cabrillo National Monument in the Visitor Center and surrounding outdoor area. Volunteers can purchase tickets at the CNMF member prices.
If you are interested in finding out more information about the event go to the Foundation’s website at cnmf.org.
This year, attendees will enjoy local fare from popular restaurants (Little Lion, Ketch, 3rd Corner, etc.) and craft beer/wines provided by local brewers/vintners.
Of course, the ability to enjoy the Park “after hours” with its spectacular sunsets and night-time views of the lights of San Diego and the Bay is a rare treat for anyone (bonus, its going to be a full moon!). There are some great auction items-restaurant cards, private dinner’s for 6, Humphreys brunch, Paul McCartney front row seats, hotel stays, SDFD Station 22 tour and meal, boat cruise, etc.
The money raised by this event is used to support the Park’s historical, educational, scientific and interpretive programs. This year’s proceeds will support programs such as the Cabrillo Community Outreach Initiative (a program which takes the Park’s science and educational programs into the communities where underserved children live), EcoLogik (a science and technology summer camp specifically targeting underserved girls) and Conservation + Comics (a new youth program centered around art and conservation efforts). Without the funding provided by the Foundation through events such as Cabrillo Under the Stars, the Park could not sustain these types of youth programs.
