From the TPERP Training Archives

Thanks to VIP Beth, we can share the presentation by Gary Evans at the initial TPERP Training in 1996. Beth was one of the original TPERPers, along with Mike Moser, attending this training and luckily she saved the videotape all these years. With a little digital enhancing we were able to restore the video for viewing.

Beth says:

“This was part of the first TPERP training and the start of the TPERP program. It was the fall of 1996, Mary Beth Varga was the VIP Coordinator, Mark Long, in LE, was the sort of TPERP Coordinator. And no one really knew what being a TPERP VIP really meant yet. We learned as we went. Those were the good ol’ days. Mike Moser was in the audience with me. “

“Terry Dimattio, then Superintendent, wrote a letter that really highlights the importance of this study and the three parts of the TPERP program that was a result. That letter is now part of the ebinder under the Why Is There A TPERP Program?   I don’t think the audience (we newbies) grasped the significance at the time, but sure do now. “

Initial TPERP Training – Gary Evans

This video is about 75 minutes in length and the content is still relevant even today. It’s also a great way to see the roots of the TPERP program. It is especially pertinent for TPERP volunteers today to watch but it’s a great look back in history for others as well.

Enjoy this moment in history. Thank you Beth!

  1. Hi,

I’m a Weed Warrior and love my time weeding at Cabrillo.

Looking through these last few emails, I was trying to find any info about the park staying open late on summer weekends for sunset.

Will this option be available this year?

    Thank you,

    Liz Morrison

    1. Hi Liz, yes the summer extended hours start this Friday, May 27. The extended hours will be on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from May 27 through September 4. You will find this on the park website under the Operating Hours and Seasons web page.
