True-to-life 85 foot female blue whale to appear at Cabrillo National Monument August 28th
On Friday, August 28th between the hours of 10AM and 4PM the Great Whale Conservancy (GWC) will appear at Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego, California.
They will have their life-sized 85-foot female blue whale they call Mz Blue. Mz Blue is patterned after a real female blue whale that GWC’s Executive Director Michael Fishbach photographed in both 2009 when she was seen with her calf and again in 2011. Michael conducts annual fieldwork on blue whales in the Sea of Cortez off Baja California, and it was on these surveys that he encountered the whale that Mz Blue is patterned after.
Q and A sessions, interactive educational tables, and a presentation on blue whales will all be part of the day.
Mz Blue offers everyone a chance to see what a real blue whale looks like, and the appreciate the immense size of these endangered whales which are the largest animals on earth.
