We recently talked about the large crack that was noticed in the arch at the entrance to the tidepools. Well Mother Nature once again showed us who is in charge. The arch collapsed in the morning of September 9, during the high tide. We expect the remaining column of the arch to fall down soon.
In addition to the arch collapse, we have also started putting out cones and an A-frame sign north of the arch location. This undercutting is creating a serious concern for any visitors who may not know what is, or in this case, what isn’t below them.
And of course there is other erosion occurring near the tidepools. There have been recent sections of material that have broken loose, and the entrance to the tidepools is getting more narrow.
So as always, be careful around the tidepools and remind the visitors how unstable all the rocks are.
