Cabrillo National Monument Is Temporarily Closed To Implement Local Health Guidance

From Ranger Elizabeth

Dear VIPs,

Today we made the tough decision to close the park until at least April 10, 2020 to protect our park staff, volunteers, partners, and visitors. I attached the press release I just sent to the media. I have to be honest and share that this week has been one of the hardest we have ever experienced: we’ve been through shutdowns and budget cuts, but the uncertainty over COVID-19 and the concerns about our volunteers and staff is hands-down the most difficult thing we have experienced.

The park will be closed to visitors. Our dedicated law enforcement and entrance station staff will still be working, keeping the gate staffed and turning away visitors. They will water the garden, empty the lighthouse dehumidifiers, make sure the snakes are happy, and keep an eye on the park for all of us until we can return.

You will hear more from us next week, so please stay in touch. Please be safe, take care of your loved ones, and take your of yourselves.
