Prayers of Twenty Millions

Good People,

All is well from our perch. We are happy to be back in the Visitor Center and out from living the movie cycle loop.  Ask the Foundation or VC staff to recite from memory any of the movies’ narratives or play the tasty licks from the score.  It’s all ingrained into our memory  Once again, many thanks to our volunteer work crew who sweated a wonderful luster on the VC desk..  I recommend you stop by to check it out.  Now that the VC is refreshed we envision the space to house temporary exhibits and highlight the view.  We plan to fine tune the space over the next 6 months.

Cabrillo Fest September 27th/28th

It is the season and the events for the fest are all lined up.  It is also the season for folks to enjoy discourse of Cabrillo’s origin.  Cabrillo comes into our historical records in 1510 as a ten-year old and that’s the best we have of an origin stories for this Iberian.  If Portuguese or Spanish historians find that birth certificate, then we can get to the specifics.  The race is on.  If you would like to help (looking for about 4 folks) with the commemoration (setup/take down of chairs mostly) on Saturday September 27th at 2:00 or want to help us on Sunday September 28th at the Submarine Base (setting up, outreach, breakdown) please email me with “My Fellow Iberian” in the subject line and we can work out a schedule.

Work Crew Leaders

If you are interested in leading and assisting large volunteer work crews, we are looking for some folks to help out.  Recently more work crews are interested in volunteering at Cabrillo and we want to foster this support.  This would require some park service training on identified projects to get you skilled, thus we are looking for a stronger commitment.  Then with your new skillz you can lead a work crew out in the Park.  We hope to host a work crew a month at Cabrillo down the road so looking for a cadre of folks to pool from.  If you are interested and would like more information email me with “Mcleod” in the subject line.

 Maritime Museum of San Diego

Get your party on with the MMSD for a festive Fandango event.  With the San Salvador as the backdrop this should be a lively party-I heard there might be a scruffy man walking around with a mini horse to provide information, insight and buffoonery.  It is also a fundraiser for the San Salvador and future educational endeavors for San Diego yutes.
